The history of France has
left indelible marks on the Loiret, both in terms of its architectural heritage
and the broad variety of displays to discover in its Museums and Themed
Attractions.
From the Medieval fortress of Yèvre-le-Châtel (13th Century) (2002 Tourism
Awards winner) to the dungeon of the Château de Meung-sur-Loire where the famous
poet François Villon (15th century) was imprisoned, not forgetting the Demeure
des Ducs de Sully (15th – 16th centuries) or even “le Château de Chamerolles”
(16th Century) with its exhibition of hygiene through the ages, at your own
leisurely pace you can explore the rich history of the Loiret area.
After having roamed all over the Loiret, it's time to pause in Orléans, where
Joan of Arc is omnipresent (City liberated on 8th May 1429). Take advantage of
this pause to contemplate the majesty of the Hôtel Groslot as well as the city's
remarkable museums (Beaux Arts, Musée Historique et Archéologique de
l'Orléanais, etc…)
