During her short 19 year
life (6th January 1412 – 30th May 1431) the shepherdess from Domrémy radically
changed the course of French history and marked her passage through Orléans and
the Loiret.
A few date to remember:
- 27th to 29th April 1429, passage through Chécy.
- 8th May 1429, relief of Orléans by the turrets at St-Marceau.
- 12th June 1429, relief of Jargeau.
- 15th June 1429, relief of Meung sur Loire.
- 17th June 1429, relief of Beaugency.
- 18th June 1429, victory at Patay.
Each April, you can relive this page of history by participating in the festival
in Chécy, with its Medieval market and naturally, on 7th and 8th May, in
Orléans, you can witness the handing over of the Standard from the Mayor to the
Bishop, and browse through the Medieval market between watching the
commemorative processions.
During these uncertain and troubled times, a famous Beaugency lamentation
explained the future king's distress:
"My friends, what remains,
of this so kind Dauphin,
Orléans, Beaugency,
Vendôme, Vendôme."
