Beer is the world's most
popular beverage and it exists in every region and in every
culture on the planet. Archaeologists have proven that the
Egyptians brewed beer about 5,000 years ago.
In France, during the Middle Ages, beer was one of the main
beverages, despite the existence of winemaking in numerous
regions. It was at this time that specific regional beers
appeared. Each town across France had its own beer, prepared
with local cereals. La Johannique beer descends from this
ancient tradition and without a doubt this product creates
a sense of belonging accompanied by a certain pride in the
city and the region.
The wheat and corn malts used for brewing this light ale are
produced by the Pithiviers malt house. The cereals used are
the product of reasoned farming and thereby provide La Johannique
beer with its local authenticity and intrinsic qualities.
For the second fermentation, taking place in the bottle, La
Johannique has chosen to use a heather honey from the La Ferté
St. Aubin honey producers.
The unique recipe and the exceptional quality of the ingredients
impart a subtle balance of a bitter ale taste and an aromatic
gentleness to this light ale. La Johannique is a modern, light
and gentle ale, respectful of the finest brewing traditions.
The pleasures derived from drinking this beer are those of
sharing a local product and having your friends and family
discover a traditional, premium quality product.
La Johannique traditionally contains a yeast deposit at the
bottom of the bottle, being a sign of a natural and healthy
product. The best way of pouring La Johannique is to gently
half fill the glass and then to speed up pouring towards the
end, to form a head of foam in order to imprison the aromas.
Another way of pouring is to gently shake the bottle to mix
up the yeast deposit and thereby obtain a truly natural cloudy
beer.
