Vineyard:

Even though the Coteaux du Giennois were only classifed
as an A.O.C. in 1998, in the appellation area grape pips dating back
to the 11th century have been found at Cosnes-sur-Loire (Nièvre),
proving the longstanding existence of vines along the banks of the
Royal River, just where our appellation is located. The numerous
abbeys founded in the region have contributed to the expansion of the
winemaking activity.
The Coteaux du Giennois extend over 14 communities and cover 150
hectares.
The flint and limestone soils enable the following wines to be
produced:
Dry white wines from Sauvignon variety grapes.
Red and rosé wines from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir.
These white and rosé wines are to be drunk young and very chilled,
whilst the reds are light and fruity, offering little tannin and can
be kept for up to five years. There are an ideal complement to red
meats and poultry dishes.
