Created by the local
winegrower's association, the Confrérie des Hotteux du Giennois promotes and
advertises the local appellation wines. It is the link between the producers and
the consumers. Founded in 1991, to date the Confrérie has held 58 chapters and
admitted 200 Honorary Members.The Giennois A.O.C vineyard, an A.O.C. since 1998,
extends over almost 200 hectares and runs along the flint and limestone
hillsides between Cosnes sur Loire (Nièvre) and Gien (Loiret) following the
banks of the Loire.
Emblem and uniform:

The grape hod has been chosen as
the emblem for the Brotherhood as, in olden days, the earth hod or harvesting
hod never left the winegrower's back and thus symbolised his/her condition. The
uniforms worn by the Officers of the Chapter are based on 15th century clothing,
from the time when Anne de Beaujeu, eldest daughter of Louis X1 and once
Princess Regent of France, had “le Château de Gien” built, as she was the lady
of the manor.
The colours recall those of the two towns of Cosne and Gien, with azur blue
being a joint colour and the mixing of gold and silver representing the
distinguished white wines from the "cru".
