In the springtime, in
our region the growth of the fragile fruit of the cherry tree
is favoured by the excellent conditions existing in the Loiret's
micro climate.
On 19th March 2002, a group of inhabitants from Olivet and
St. Hilaire St. Mesnim decided to found "La Confrérie
Gourmande des Mangeurs de Cerises des Bords du Loiret"
– Loiret River Banks Hearty Cherry Eaters Brotherhood
with the purposes of maintaining the local tradition of cherry
growing and of continuing to promote its longstanding reputation.
This Brotherhood brings together the communities of Olivet,
St. Hilaire St. Mesmin, Mareau aux Prés, Mézières
lez Cléry and Cléry St. André.
The
aims of the Brotherhood are: :
- Praising the qualities, the beneficial properties and all
the ways of consuming and processing the cherry fruit.
- Encouraging the quest for quality on the part of trade professionals
and participating in all local, regional, national and international
competitions and other events.
- Discovering and researching fine cooking recipes and keeping
local traditions alive.
- Expanding cherry production.
- Promoting and generating affection for the Orléanais
region, its Loiret river banks, its countryside and its traditions.
- Highlighting the tastes of the Orléanais region's
local produce.
